Since 1997, Betz Family Winery has been crafting compelling wines with individual character that are approachable, age-worthy and showcase Washington as a distinguished wine region. Bob Betz began his winemaking career at Château Ste. Michelle in 1975 and founded Betz Family Winery in 1997, building it into one of Washington’s most critically-acclaimed wineries. Their vineyard and cellar practices are among the most focused and labor-intensive in the state and this attention to detail shows in wine produced from some of the greatest vineyard blocks in Washington State.
In 2011, Bob and Cathy Betz sold the winery to Steve and Bridgit Griessel and Bob stayed on as the winery’s patriarch, mentor and Winemaker. In 2016 Louis Skinner was promoted to Winemaker and Bob took on the role of Consulting Winemaker. They remain a tight-knit group focused on paying attention to quality every step of the way. They believe their best wines are still ahead and we look forward to that! These very special wines are rarely available and highly sought after, so we are delighted to feature them in October and November by the glass and bottle.
2016 Quinta Essentia Chenin Blanc 2016
Quinta Essentia is a partnership between Betz Family Winery, Carl van der Merwe, a leading winemaker in South Africa and Wendy Appelbaum, the owner of DeMorgenzon. Chenin Blanc is quintessentially South African- distinctive, aromatic, and intense on the palate with an acid backbone. The delicious semi-sweet flavor pairs perfectly with our signature Wicked Shrimp. (Available by the glass and bottle)
2015 Besoleil – southern Rhone blend
2015 marks the second vintage in a row that Cinsault, Counoise, and Mourvèdre have all played a larger than usual role in Besoleil. The 2015 Bésoleil reflects a wide range of sites in the Yakima Valley. Cinsault contributes a velvety texture, with bright raspberry fruit and floral notes. Counoise provides aromatic complexity including white and black pepper, fresh herbs, and lilac blossom. Mourvèdre brings stucture, combing in the perfume of blackberry blossoms with the herbal tones the grape is known for.
2014 Cuvee Frangin – The Little Brother’s Blend
Flavors of plum, pomegranate, and strawberry are supported by crisp acidity, and velvety tannins. The palate is deep and layered, but above all showing the mouthwatering structure of the’14 vintage. The finish is sweet, and reflects the marriage of Bordeaux and Rhone varietals. (Available by the glass and bottle)
2014 Pere de Famille Cabernet Sauvignon
The vibrant shades of purple magenta are the first clue that 2014 is a special vintage of Père de Famille. Wine Director, Lee Spires, recommends pairing this full-bodied and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with Filet Oscar for a truly indulgent experience.
