El Gaucho Seattle has long been a fan of Owen Roe wines, which have been on our wine list for many years – so we are honored to host a special Winemaker Dinner on Friday July 27th with legendary Owen Roe winemaker, David O’Reilly.
Owen Roe has a national reputation for exceptional wines and is arguably one of the Top 10 most recognized labels outside the Pacific Northwest. Their highly sought after labels and stellar reputation have been earned through producing consistent, quality wines, receiving many high accolades. A personal appearance by O’Reilly, a charismatic figure and pioneer in the wine industry, is rare because of his demanding schedule, which includes owning three vineyards, managing 10-15 more, and travelling the nation.
O’Reilly, who was born in Ireland, gives a nod to his Irish heritage through the stunning letterpress and photographic labels of Irish castles, abbeys and fortresses. The winery’s name itself salutes Owen Roe O’Neil, an Irish patriot who led Ireland in the fight for Independence during the Irish Confederate Wars of the seventeenth century. While the labels offer a story of Irish history, they are also prelude to the beautiful wines that tell a story of winemaking, place and the people who grow these grapes in the Pacific Northwest.
El Gaucho chefs have crafted a superb menu to highlight each wine. One standout is the 2010 DuBrul Vineyard Chardonnay, made from grapes grown in perhaps the best vineyard in Washington State. This wine is only offered to the Owen Roe wine club, since only 100 cases were produced; however, it will be available for purchase at the winemaker dinner.
Another shining star is the 2010 Syrah from Red Willow Vineyard’s, “Chapel Block”, the most recognized and photographed vineyard in the state. This wine has received positive press reviews and high scores. It also pairs well with food, especially our Certified Angus Beef® brand Prime New York.
While this extraordinary evening is nearly sold-out, stay tuned: El Gaucho Seattle is creating another Winemaker’s dinner, sure to please wine and food enthusiasts alike.
