A Season to Celebrate Giving Back

As we begin the holiday season, our team would like to express our gratitude to the people and organizations dedicated to helping others and supporting our community.  In November, we had the opportunity to celebrate the work of Union Gospel Mission, FareStart and USO Northwest.

El Gaucho and AQUA by El Gaucho have been preparing and serving lunch at the Union Gospel Mission (UGM) Men’s Shelter twice a month for the last ten years.  We were amazed when we learned that added up to nearly 65,000 meals.  The Men’s Shelter serves three meals a day to anyone in need and the kitchen was in desperate need of major repairs.  Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the kitchen recently reopened with shiny new appliances, plumbing remodel, non-skid epoxy floors and lots of new equipment, which will elevate the cooking experience for the staff and the quality of the meals for the guests.  We were honored to take part in the ribbon cutting event on November 10th and we look forward to serving meals in the beautiful new kitchen.

On November 16th, Culinary Director, Chef Jason Wilson and El Gaucho Seattle Executive Chef Jonathan Garcia teamed up with the students and kitchen team at FareStart to share some techniques and create a delicious meal for guests.  The FareStart Guest Chef Night raises funds to support their goal of transforming homelessness, hunger and poverty into human potential.  We were fortunate to witness the graduation of two students as they begin their culinary careers and look forward to another opportunity to work with the FareStart team next year.

As part of El Gaucho Seattle’s 20th Anniversary celebration in 2016, the El Gaucho community helped us raise $134,000 to build and maintain USO Camp Lewis, a new hospitality center on the Army side of Joint Base Lewis McChord.  The USO Camp Lewis Center opened on November 20th and will meet the needs of more than 50,000 military members and their families during its first year.  Being part of the grand opening meant a great deal to our team and it was an honor for us to serve those who do so much to serve us.
